What Are The Three Main Components of Marketing?

In this post we will take a 30,000 foot view of what marketing is all about.  Way too many times people in any business get too carried away with the latest gadget or the newest ninja tool and they forget what all these whiz-bang tools are based off of.  There are only three main areas of marketing that you need to worry about, and we’ll discuss them in this post.

Market Research

In any business and I mean any business, you have to know who your market is.  Do you know what makes your market tick?   Do you know what they think about, why they are in business or why they have the problems that you can solve?  Do you know the Who? What? When? Where? How? and Why? of your target market.  Do you know how old they are, what race they are, what gender they are and their annual household income?  Do you know what psychologically drives them?  Do you have a good understanding of their demographics and their psychographics?  In 30,000 ft. term that is market research.  This is one of the first things that a business needs to know about it’s marketing effort.

What Will You Do With Your Marketing Research?

Now that you know who your audience is, what will you do with this information?  That is also an area that we run into in our business.  What marketing strategy will you come up with that will help you sell more products or services?  There are really two at the 30,000 ft. level.  One, paid strategies and Two, unpaid strategies.

This is the third area that companies struggle with their business, regardless of how big or small their companies or corporations are,  finding intelligent talented people that understand how to implement the strategies you’ve decided upon.

In Summary:  Marketing is really based on three main areas:

  1. Market Research
  2. Marketing Strategy
  3. Marketing Implementation.


is the way that you decide who your target audience or market will be and how you will reach them in a way that emotionally gets them to try and eventually buy what you have to sell.    In our next three posts we’ll delve a little deeper into the nuts and bolts of each area separately.
